Our Stanley Bottles Will Probably Outlive Your Grandkids

A partnership born from unbreakable bottles

At the end of a long night, sometime in 1913, liminal inventor William Stanley Jr welded together two pieces of steel to form the world’s first all-steel vacuum-insulated bottle. It was a revolution. A bold discovery. Prior to this, the only type of vacuum bottles were made of glass; like the ones Sting used to send in the ‘80s.

Soon after his Eureka moment, Stanley’s bottles found themselves keeping water for tired crews, sprawled the deep sea floor in scrap submarines through the depths of World War One. They accompanied mountaineering pioneers as they reached the frosty peaks of the Himalayas. They rode with Amelia Earhart as she flew across the Atlantic. They sustained countless people through wars and depressions, keeping things warm when the world around them chilled to its core.

The insulated steel locked whatever was inside the bottle in the state it arrived. Finally, fresh water could keep cold and drinkable for days on end. Soup, tea and coffee could be carried the extra mile, warmer than ever. The vacuum insulation meant nothing leaked out and nothing rusted. Timeless technology produced timeless results.

Stanley’s ethos was explicit: to create the most sustainable product possible. By utilising recycled steel in conjunction with his dedication to reduce waste at every point of the supply chain, the company that now bears his name is doing some game changing stuff. We get behind every inch of that with all the gusto we can muster.

In the days before mass consumption, with plastic waste galore, quality objects were valued for their untarnished, long lives. In spite of this, here’s a couple of not-so-fun facts: the WWF estimates that 75% of water bottles are not recycled. Instead, they end up in landfills, litter roadsides, and pollute waterways and oceans. Specifically, around 373 million plastic water bottles end up as waste each year in Australia alone. Pretty cooked, if you ask us.

Pollution and waste are two things that appall us on a daily basis - and that we’re actively trying to counteract. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Stanley to collaborate on wilderness essentials to help sustain you out there over a lifetime.

We’ve adapted the classic Hammertone 1L bottle and custom-inscribed it with our Nature Dispensary logo to give it a new, and dare we- say improved look. It’s still got all the details that made it last these 111 years.

The insulation means that hot liquids will keep hot for up to 24 hours, and cold liquids will stay cold for even longer than that. The flat-pack handle to carry it wherever your heart desires. The lip that doubles as a cup, to sip your morning coffee in peace on-top of a hill or perhaps in bed, at one of our cabins.

In a similar vein, we’ve reinvigorated Stanley’s Hammertone 250ml Flask. This baby is all-steel and vacuum insulated, ready to accompany you beside a campfire or in the bottom of your backpack as you climb through city streets and forest floors. Perfect for a little nip of herbal tea or mulled wine wherever your feet skip a beat. Did we mention that it looks bloody fantastic?

Wild, sustainable and yet screaming quality - we reckon this collaboration is pretty neat. If we could give old Mr Stanley a buzz in the afterlife, we think he’d approve, too.
