How we proved two nights in nature improves wellbeing and reduces burnout
An international study on the benefits of nature from AllTrails and Unyoked.
What happens when the world's largest outdoor platform and the world's leading off-grid cabin / nature / "something about eggs" company team up and do some science?
We prove that 2 days in nature can be up to 50% more powerful than meditation at improving your mental wellbeing and reducing burnout.
Yes, you read that correctly.
In a rigorous scientific study, powered by Corus, a leading wellbeing accounting company, and input from our scientific advisory panel, we sent 407 participants across 3 countries to Unyoked cabins for a combined total of 17,000hrs+ in nature.
Using the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS) and the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI), we studied the effect that time in nature would have on these powerful indicators of physiological and psychological balance. Finding that spending 2 nights in nature was more powerful at improving both metrics than at least 8 existing more common interventions.
Why did we do it?
Because modern life is full of stress and our feeds are full of inventions to help us manage it all. But at @Unyoked and @AllTrails, we kept asking ourselves "what if the best solution was actually something simpler and available all around us?"
We intrinsically know that the joy of nature can open our minds to new ways of thinking, lower our stress, and leave us feeling brand new, yet few of us use this knowledge to help power our everyday. With this global study, we set out to prove it. And in doing so help spread awareness for how getting into nature more regularly could be the remedy for modern life we've been searching for.
