It's 15 minutes on foot, according to the Field Guide he saved to his phone yesterday because he always likes to be prepared. We decide to forgo the wheelbarrow at the car park and try our luck on foot. It takes about 30 seconds of us schlepping all our bags through the mud for us to realise we are not smarter than nature. In any case, the wheelbarrow is kind of adorable and reminds us of being kids again.

The anticipation makes the walk worth it. Every mud-soaked step, you feel like you're getting closer to something epic that's just around the next corner. Back in the city, I'd momentarily considered wearing my white sneakers on this journey. Looking at the state of my boots on the deck, I'm pretty stoked I thought better of it.

This stay out in the wilderness has really made us appreciate that the outdoors is charming precisely because it's not perfect. You might drop shit, or tear something. There could be bugs, or a camouflaged surprise left by a local animal. It's all part of the fun.

He's out there starting a campfire for us and I've just found our winter cocktails for the night. The lyrebirds are singing, this view is unbelievable and dinner smells amazing.

Hell, if I'd wanted clean and tidy, I'd have stayed in the land of white shoes...
