Conferencing with your soul in the Scenic Rim

I headed to Kojey after a 3-day marathon cultural conference in Brisbane. It was days full of lectures, afternoons full of gigs and late nights crammed with drinking. In addition, it was my first proper outing since becoming a new parent, so safe to say that by the third evening I was completely fried and barely able to keep my eyes open, let alone stand up. I needed to get away from all the action and networking and decompress for a bit. And then I remembered that Kojey was only a couple of hours drive from where I was. I smokebombed out of there at 4pm and it was the best decision I made that week.
Kojey sits atop a winding road on a secluded property in what seems like the end of the Earth in Mount Maroon, which is part of the stunning Scenic Rim area. There's a reason people fly thousands of km's to see this place; it's a bit like being on Mars - if Mars also a few had cows. You're surrounded by fields and mountains and endlessness. The sense of being a miniature in a gigantic scale model of life is palpable. There's absolutely nothing around. The drive itself is spectacular, it's a fantastic way to clear one's head of everything taking up space in the big city.
I woke up without a hangover or a phone full of phone numbers of people I'd said I would 'connect' with when I got back home. In fact, I woke up to the rain, and it was majestic. It pounded my roof like an assault rifle, and as I sat staring out at the misty mountain nursing my morning coffee and listening to the sounds of the world around me, rather than the competing voices inside my head. After such a hectic conference, there was nothing quite like conferencing out here with myself.
